In the 1980s I was a reporter with the Brisbane Telegraph, specialising in court reporting, local government and state politics, including the intrigue surrounding the final days of Queensland Premier Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen in 1987.

In the 1990s I was a lecturer at the University of Queensland, in Brisbane, Australia, specialising in Journalism Law and newspaper reporting.
