Laserforce Game Analyzer
(c) 2002 Xtreme Productions

Last Updated: 2nd October 2002 4:30 PM
Current Version: v2.01

Introduction:

LFA is a small utility which can be used with results from any laserforce 2-team game formats. Currently it works with player's score and accuracy in order to determine performance and averages. This software is free, so dont expect it to do everything you want.

Future plans include a tournament module, and support for single team game formats. Any other suggestions will be appreciated, but please remember, for simplicities sake, data is entered off just one score sheet, not multiple, so dont ask me to record how many times x position shot y position, etc. As for team elimination bonuses, and other bonuses/penalties, they will be added into the tournament module. I hope to have it up and running way before the AU 2003 nationals.

Latest Developments:

02/Oct/2002 I am releasing Version 2 to the public. I've given most of it a brief test, and i'm pretty confident there are no major bugs, (cant be too certain though). To be on the safe side, I recommend you backup your current database and executable i.e. LFAnalysis.exe and LF.mdb. Alternatively you can create a new directory and unzip the version 2 executable into it, then copy your current database into that directory and play with it there.
Barring any reasonable requests, or any major bugs, work on this project will be at a minimal.
Enjoy.

01/Oct/2002 Tournament entry is almost complete. All i need to do now is add the finals functionality and it is done!

25/Sep/2002 I'm in the process of finishing some new featutes.
     1. Individual format (e.g. Highlander) game entry... Completed
     2. Tournament entry (includes setting up teams and fixtures)... Complete
     3. 2 x Custom field entries (so those who want medic-killer stats can use this)... Completed
     4. Reports for Custom fields... 4 Added, dont know if I will add more
     5. Edit Individual player entries in Game History... Completed
When all the above are 100% complete, I will place the new version here. Stay tuned!

Requirements:

Firstly you need the program, which you can download from just below. It uses an access database, therefore you will need any version of microsoft's MDAC v2.1 or greater. Depending on your operating system, and what you have installed on your PC, in most cases you will already have MDAC v2.1 or greater installed. If you dont, then you can download it from microsoft's web site. You will also need winzip (or equivalent) to unzip the files. Oh yeah... it only works in windows 98/NT/2000/XP.

Downloads:

Download LF Analyzer V1.00 (approx 2 Mb)
Download V1.01 update (approx 50 kb)
Download V2.01 update (approx 130 kb) Please take backup before installing, there is no turning back otherwise
Download LF Analyzer V2.01 - 20031228 build (approx 130 kb) Please take backup before installing, there is no turning back otherwise
To install update, just unzip over existing installation and overwrite any old versions.
Note: V1.01 is needed as, v1.00 has an initial creation bug. (should have tested it with a blank db). It will install a new executable, as well as a new blank database. If you managed to get the database to work, then all you need to do is extract the executable only.

NOTE A database issue has come to light. LFA101.zip as of 26/sep/2002 is fine, this only affects anybody using the database from LFA101.zip prior to this date. If you got MS Access, open the LF.MDB database and change the name of the column in the GameDetail table from GameDetalID to GameDetailID. It has been fixed for all those wanting to download it now. All those not using the database from LFA101.ZIP need not care. End NOTE

FAQ:

1. How do you use it.
The first thing to do is enter in Player names and Game Formats with positions. At the monment team colours are fixed at Red & Green. Once this basic data is in, its as simple as going to the game entry screen, type in the date and select the game format. From here enter in the players, their positions, score and accuracy. When both teams are in save the game. Done!

2. How do I edit a game if I made a mistake?
If the game has been saved, you cant (yet). However you can delete the game and re-enter it. To delete a game go to the Game History Tab, select the game and press the delete button.

2. Whats this Performance Tab?
The Performnce Tab allows for the creation of performance measurements. For instance if you want to see how well players are in a re-supp roll, you can set values for those positions, and zeros for all other positions. This way only those positions will be included in any average calculations.
Score and Accuracy can have an overall weighting (both must add up to 100). Score individual positions, and Accuracy for individual positions also must add up to a maximum of 100 each. Here is an example:
Position Score % Accuracy %
Ammunition 15 5
Commander 20 20
Heavy 20 5
Medic 30 5
Scout 30 30
With Score Emphasis: 70 &, Accuracy Emphasis 30%
The way it works is:
ScoreEmphasis * Sum(position_score% * AvePosition_score)
+ AccuracyEmphasis * Sum(position_accuracy% * AvePosition_Accuracy/100 * AvePosition_score)
