General
Train at least twice a week and don't forget to practice at home.
Improve your fitness by doing other sports such as
swimming, jogging or going to the gym.
Listen to what your instructor tells you. He/she is there
to help you improve.
Dedicate yourself to your training. To achieve you must
put the effort in.
Have pride you your uniform. Make sure it is clean and
looking good for every training session.
Kihon - The basics of Karate.
Practice your techniques slowly at first until you can do them
correctly, then add speed and power.
The way to improve your techniques is to relax and
generate power.
Practice in front of a mirror if you are at home so you
can correct yourself.
Use a punching bag to develop your kicks and punches while
improving your fitness.
Kata
Kata's are not only for gradings or tournaments but are a
useful source for self defence techniques.
In kata your eyes should be looking in the correct direction.
Add drama to your kata wear a heavyweight gi which snaps
as you move.
Practice kata daily.
Do not learn a new kata all at once. Break it down and
learn each section correctly the first time.
Study all the movements of a kata and learn what they can
be used for.
Always ask questions, What is this technique used for?
When you see another style practicing a kata. Look to see
what makes it good so you can improve your performance.
Kumite
When sparring always stay focused.
Don't throw out any technique use combinations.
Wait or create openings then attack.
Don't stand still, move around the ring.
Always hold up your guard.
Watch your opponents breathing.
Make sure that all your techniques are fast and accurate.
Work on combinations that are effective for you.
