The Adventure Series which I mostly read via smaller paperback issues that arrived in the early/mid sixties. Having come across an early edition I marvelled more at the binding of the hard-cover and the beautiful embossing work, as much as the contents. Main Enid Blyton page.

The early works of this hardcover series are best displayed at An Unofficial Enid Blyton Site where you will find 8 or more of this series in glorious colour.

As you can see from the full-wrap dust jacket that the illustration was relatively large. What I enjoy the most here is the coloured and embossed pressing in the hard-cover cloth binding. In the River of Adventure edition that I have the front and spine are decorated in black and green. The illustrations are by Stuart Tresilian and I assume that it is the first edition as no impression detail is given. Its stated as 'MacMillan and Co Ltd, New York - St Martins Press - 1955.

The embossing on the other two books that I have is similar with the Valley of Adventure appearing below. The 'Castle' book I have as well except that it is without its jacket and I did not bother scanning it here.

The first of the Adventure series books it was published in 1944. My copy that I acquired recently is a 1951 reprint of the first edition.

With this one I have prepared a larger image resolution of this jacket. Its a 1:1 reproduction and is 200K in size.

You'll see from the larger image that the jacket has a significant tear across the front from the lower left corner near the spine through to the centre on the right edge. It is also moth or silver-fish eaten and the spine image is all but gone from this damage.
However they are pretty uncommon in any condition. Oddly enough the book & binding is mint. A great addition to my collection.

The Valley of Adventure in my collection is a 1951 impression of this title which I assume to mean the 4th edition, following on from its release in 1947, with reprints in 1949, 1950, and 1951. The binding has a similar embossed finish in a green and brown, with a beautifully kept dust jacket.
