If you are interested in becoming a glider pilot or would
merely like to experience gliding, come and have a flight with us. Most
people find this is an exiting experience and want to learn more about it and
become part of it.
The glider you will fly has dual controls and your
instructor will sit behind you. Your instructor will show you the control
motions and, if you like, will guide you as you take the controls to have a go
at flying the glider yourself.
Learning while flying is fun, a balanced mix of
determination, flexibility and practice is necessary to achieve progress and get
the most out of the sport. Once you have mastered the essentials and begin
flying solo you will find the best is yet to come, as your skills and confidence
become more highly developed you will learn to head out on cross country flights
and perhaps enter soaring contests.
Requirements
- To experience gliding you must first take out a short
term membership with the Gliding Federation of Australia
(GFA). This is a
legal requirement and will be organised with you prior to your flight.
- All air experience flights are conducted with qualified instructors.
- Gliders are weight critical. Flights may not be possible for people over
100 kg.
- Airfields can be very hot in summer and extremely cold in winter.
Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing; including sunglasses, a narrow
brim hat (the terry towelling type is ideal), and sunscreen. Don't
forget to bring your camera.
Costs
Introductory GFA Membership
- $20.00. Introductory
GFA Membership allows a person
to undertake gliding training for three consecutive days without necessarily
being a member of the Beaufort Gliding Club.
Flying Cost
- $110.00 for a tow to
3,000 feet (up to 30 minutes*).

Longer flights may
be arranged with your instructor, if conditions permit, and will usually involve payment of an
additional fee.

Aerobatic flights involving loops, spins,
chandelles or tight turns cost $250.00 but are only available by prior
arrangement. Aerobatic flights are generally limited to 15 minutes*.
