I'm having difficulty downloading ReNews
Try downloading the software from a ftp site. Our ftp server supports crash recovery so you will be able to resume an aborted download from where you left off.

Why don't I get any results?
If you don't ever get any results then see the next answer about your proxy settings. If you occasionally don't get any results then check the spelling of your search terms or broaden your search by using less specific search terms.

Why do I need to manually set my proxy settings?
Usually ReNews will automatically determine your proxy settings for you. If your settings change or if ReNews was not able to detect your proxy settings then you will have to set them manually. To do so click on the Edit menu and select  "Proxy Settings", complete the details and click OK.

How can I find out what my proxy settings should be?
ReNews needs the same proxy setting as your browser. If you can run your browser and can get on the web then you are in business. If you use IE as your browser then select View|Options, click on the Connection tab and click the Settings button in the Proxy Server area, setup ReNews to use the same address and port setting for the HTTP server. If you use Netscape then click on Edit|Preferences, expand the Advanced section and click on Proxies and then the View button, setup ReNews to use the same settings for proxy address and port for HTTP. If all else fails then your network administrator or ISP will have the proxy details.

How can I read the latest articles in a newsgroup?
Remove any search terms and type in a full or partial newsgroup in the newsgroup area and click on the search button. This will display the most recent articles.

Can I search for words near other words?
Yes, if you want to find articles with the word digital near the  word camera then just type in digital near camera.

What are the strange characters in some articles?
ReNews will occasionally locate articles in non English newsgroups. For example, Asian newsgroups start with hk., tw., fido7. etc and will try to display Chinese characters. These Chinese characters will usually not display on your system and will show up as strange looking characters on your screen. You can use the Newsgroup Exclusion List to filter out articles from newsgroups you are not able to read.
