Known as "olibanum" - oil of Lebanon - frankincense has a dignified history of spiritual healing and, as an offering to the baby Jesus, it was said to signify his priesthood. Frankincense is a popular incense and, like its cousin, myrrh, comes from a tough desert tree which secretes a resin when the bark is wounded. A rejuvenator for dull, aging skin, an expectorant and pulmonary antiseptic, it can deepen the breathing, and help the immune response. Infused with the warm desert air, frankincense brings solace in times of weakness or bereavement, and is a valuable oil to treat any form of depression due to the onset of winter.
