Presidents Report for Annual General Meeting. 2006Rod’s memorial. This is a shocking way to have to write a Presidential Report, a report which is normally intended to be buoyant as well as being informative. Please bear with me. We arranged a special committee meeting early in February to consider what to do next now that Rod is no longer with us. This issue of the newsletter will be a special memorial Issue. One of the other items we discussed was the possibility of a roadside memorial, mainly as a place for us Ulyssians to go to remember him. Ultimately we decided the correct procedure was to leave this subject as a matter for Rods family to consider. For those who were unable to attend the funeral, I would like to let you know that, under the terrible circumstances, Rods funeral was fantastic. A wonderful collection of people gathered to show and express their appreciation for such a warm and friendly man who touched so many of us in our different ways. I would like to formally thank those suffering members who were with Rod on his ride or were out on the alternate club outing on the fateful day they suffered badly from the shocking news. Please consider their feelings when discussing the matter.
If Rod was writing this report he would be expressing his great appreciation to the members who have helped him to administer our happy little branch. So I would like to say thank you to Peter Howard for making up the ride calendar, and coordinating our rides, and thank you to Norm Hill for taking such comprehensive minutes, and keeping such detailed financial records. Thanks to Amanda Zoon for developing such an interesting newsletter and learning from Peter Howard how to get our web page up to speed. Thanks also to the active members who have volunteered their time to help out as ride leaders during the year, Mike Davis, Rudy Sondermeyer, Arthur Wing, Col Williams, Phil Morey, Phil McGee, John Vellis, John Leeming, John Berryman, Barry Millwood, Colin Johns, Tony Hindrum, Guy Mc Kibben, and John Young Thanks to the jolly ladies, Carol and Lynne, Marie and Margaret, Eyelene(Rice sorry Amanda I don’t know how to spell Eilene) and Sally who sold tickets, organised functions and assisted with keeping us happy and well fed.
Annual General MeetingOur Tamar Tourers Annual General Meeting will be held at 7.30 pm on 27 April this year at the Centennial Hotel, and we urge you to come along to hear how the club is going and to elect our office bearers. This year we will be adding a postal vote facility to help members who may be unable to attend on the night. This way you may still advise the committee of your vote on any of the items on the agenda where a vote is required to determine a decision. There are two new Motions requiring your consideration this year. 1 That the position of Vice President be added to the list of office bearers for the Tamar Tourers Branch. There are two reasons for this new position. One is to help retain the knowledge of the outgoing President and secondly, this is a good position to offer someone who may be interested in a future role.
2 That an office bearer may not be nominated for re election after three consecutive years in office, and not be available for re election for the next three years. The thinking behind this is to help keep the Club fresh with new people and ideas and to encourage members who may be reluctant to stand in opposition to an existing long term officer.
Motorcycle Safety Training Rebates. The Club is encouraging members to attend rider training days, and the recent good news is the new “Road Skills Refresher Course” conducted by Stay Upright in Tasmania. These courses are specifically designed for riders who obtained their motorcycle licence years ago without much formal rider training, and are now riding a bike again. The course costs $180 for the day. MAIB pay the first $130, the customer only has to pay $50 to Stay Upright when you attend the course. As a Ulysses member, you will now get $25 back from the Club, which means you only have to pay $25 for an enjoyable day and one which may help save your life. Ring Stay Upright and book yourself in, you will be pleased you did.
Rodger Mortimer.
President’s Report
December 2005
After my chronicle in the last newsletter you’ll be happy that I’ve decided to make this a short one. I believe that 2005 has been a good year for the Tamar Tourers featuring some great, relatively incident free rides and some great social activities and if the new Ride Calendar is any indication 2006 is off to a fine start. As the 2006 Ulysses National AGM approaches I would encourage all who are able to spare some time to get involved and assist the Cradle Coast Cruisers with this large undertaking. Many of us have participated in AGM’s all over Australia and have enjoyed the help and hospitality offered by other clubs so it would be good if our visitors are able to leave with great memories of their trip to Tassie. I’d like to thank all the Ride Leaders, Tail End Charlies and the guys and girls who have made our rides and social events so successful. Thanks a lot folks. Thank you also to our Committee for their work in looking after the day to day business of the Club. In closing I’d like to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas/New Year holiday and I look forward to seeing you on a ride soon. Rod McCulloch
