SWAT
- The Society Without Alcoholic Trauma was formed on 1990 as a non-profit
association with a simple objective to introduce some reforms
into the alcohol industry by making the trade, responsible for the
costs of the damage caused by its product. Alcohol policy reform is
long overdue with the Liquor Industry never been subjected to a referendum
or a court case to determine its current place. It will be a valuable
step forward when it is forced to justify before the Australian people
the special privilege it enjoys.
"
It's high time the alcohol trade be made responsible for its costs
"
SWAT
recognises alcohol as a legitimate trade and does not favour prohibition
or campaign for abstinence. However, there is no justification whatsoever
for the current financial support by government and the subsidy it
provides for those who drink. Over the years, we have printed and
distributed approximately 500,000 bulletins which have contained information
about the extent of damage caused by alcohol and the arguments which
justify our claim, that to charge the populace with these costs is
quite illogical, unfair, and undemocratic.
