Data for Registration Purposes

Waratah Motor Cycle Data only

NB this limited data only involves Waratah sold in Victoria. It is not an extensive list of all Waratah sold and only provides enough data for a country policeman to check whether a Waratah presented to him for registration purposes is what it purports to be.

Note

1                    The 1929-1934 sample numbers do not include the engine prefix which should be W. Some may be WF or WL but these are merely variants of the basic 147cc Mk VIII-C engine.

2                    The 1929-1934 sample numbers denote the number of Mk VIII-C engines made by Villiers, not the numbers of Waratah made.

3                    Engine prefix CUXF denotes a MK XV-C engine. This is simply a single exhaust port version of the 148cc MK XII-C twin exhaust port engine. It is otherwise identical to it and for all technical detail should be viewed as a Mk XII-C engine.

4                    The 125cc engine referred to is the 8D  3-speed unit construction power unit, which was continually improved and developed into the 9D unit. For all technical purposes, refer to instructions for the 9D unit.

5                    Engine prefix AXF refers to the 247cc MK 16A petroil lubricated engine. Made from 1934 until WWII stopped production, Villiers themselves referred to this engine as suitable for utility motorcycles. Villiers made a range of 250cc engines and this was the bottom of the range.

6                    The horsepower column merely lists the horsepower rating for Victorian registration/taxation purposes. It has no other relevance.
