INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION BROADCASTS Steve Irwin The
unexpected tragedy of Steve Irwin's sudden demise in early September
2006 kept Project Television's Cairns operation very busy. Our crew was
on location on the Low Isles within a few hours for national news and
in the following weeks provided field production crews and services for
international tributes and news broadcasts in Europe and South America.
Fuji TV P-kies shoot Japanese TV
Mascot on
“Finding Nemo-style” Australian Diving Adventure North Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef feature on Japanese television in two episodes of P-kies, the top rating Fuji TV children's show. P-kies has been
running for
30 years and has an audience of 30 million households throughout Japan
The mascot of P-kies is a 5 year old dinosaur named Gachapin. Gachapin visited Cairns in late October, dived on and flew over the Great Barrier Reef in a "Finding Nemo" related adventure. The release date for "Finding Nemo" in Japan is Dec 6. Gachapin also called in on a preschool and met with a local scout group. This itinerary faced the Japanese production team Fuji Creative Co. with many challenges. They had to find local crews with Japanese style broadcast skills and experience to shoot aerials, on land and underwater, with NTSC system broadcast equipment in a PAL system country. And as is common in today's economic climate, all on a fixed modest budget. At first it was suggested that the equipment be brought from Japan, and separate underwater, land and aerial crews be employed. However, the solution was found with Project Television Cairns' camera operator Tim Petrie and Richard Fricker on sound. Petrie not only is an experienced camera operator, but routinely shoots and edits for Japanese clients with in-house NTSC equipment with a specialty in underwater videography. Fricker has been working with Japanese and SE Asian clients since 1986. “Not having to translate much from the director to the local crew really kept the tight schedule on time & hassle free”, said Petrie. "…and being a one-stop solution assisted in the logistics, budgeting, communication and consistency in the style of the shoot". "Local knowledge of Cairns city, the dive locations and conditions, helicopter crews and Japanese television style also contributed to the success of the shoot." Petrie's NTSC
footage shot
and edited last March and April promoting "The New Cairns" was
broadcast
earlier this year throughout Japan.
Project Television has been
involved in
multimedia production since the early 90's producing information and
entertainment laser disks for institutional kiosks and corporate CD-ROM
titles. We continue being at the forefront of this continuing evolution
in multimedia with in-house DVD bulk duplication facilities and DVD
replication project management..
International
advertising media companies
chose Project Television's Cairns production office to relocate to Port
Douglas for a week in September 2006. Operating around the clock,
Project Television provided camera operators and editors and equipment
to cover the Group M international media conference. In addition to
services such as last minute DVD encoding and authoring on behalf of
delegates and a record of all the seminars and activities, the wrap DVD
projected on the final night's dinner was a huge success - with
requests for repeat showings from the delighted conference audience.
