NATIONAL MODEL RAILROAD ASSOCIATION
The Australasian Region of the NMRA was formed in 1984 and is one of only two regions outside North America, the other being the British Region. With around 300 members, regular meetings are held in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth and Brisbane, and in some regional centres. The Region runs a modellers' convention each year where clinics on the hobby are provided by experienced modellers, excellent layouts are visited, hobby suppliers sell their wares and a highly successful auction of model railroad equipment is conducted. The objects of the Australasian Region are to promote, in Australia and New Zealand, interest in prototype and model railroads; to encourage the construction of models according to standards provided by the NMRA; to provide a formal organization to improve the fellowship of the members of the NMRA resident in, or interested in, the geographic area of the Association; and to such other things as are consistent with these objects.
STRUCTURE OF THE AUSTRALASIAN REGION
The Australasian Region is divided up into 8 areas, known as Divisions. On joining the NMRA, a member is automatically a member also of the Australasian Region and the Division in which they live. These Divisions are:
Division 1 The State of Queensland
Division 2 The Australian Capital Territory.
Division 3 The States of Victoria and Tasmania.
Division 4 The State of Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
Division 5 The Dominion of New Zealand.
Division 6 The State of South Australia.
Division 7 The State of New South Wales
Division 8 Northern Rivers (NSW)
