Submission No 469: Northern Shoveler Anas clypeata, Kempsey, NSW, 25th June 2005.  Submitted by:  Alan Morris

Verdict:  Accepted

This submission relates to a sighting of a Northern Shoveler at Seales Road Swamp , near Kempsey on the Upper Belmore River 31º06’49”S 152º57’00”E on the 25th June 2005 and follows a sighting nearby at Jerseyville (about 20 km NE) on 20th May 2002 (BARC Case No.348). This bird was present for 18 days.

Identification was straightforward as once again this was a male in full breeding plumage. Photographs were not taken and the submission was notably sparse so acceptance, which was unanimous, was based more on the experience and reputation of the observers. This is the 7th record of this species to be accepted by BARC.
