A woman stands on the narrow platform waiting to board
her train. The station is almost empty, her only companion
is a bizarre stranger in evening dress.
This stylised image was inspired in part by Manet's
Gare San Lazare, I've just always loved the vast perspective
in that painting of the station. Originally I'd drawn
this woman in her 1920's style clothing, (MY version),
standing alone and I needed to create an environment
for her. The station suggested itself.
Another source of my inspiration can be found in Cream's
"White Room"; the song suggested a dream like
experience, an unattainable woman, a train station in
black and white
Don't be fooled by her giraffe like height
though, I know my perspective inside and out, sometimes
I just get a little silly with it though. Makes it all
a little tiny bit surreal.
