MynaVac Trap

A device for trapping a female Indian myna while she is sitting on eggs or chicks in a nestbox.  I
t is designed to be applied from the ground – no climbing is required. The design as a concept has been proven but its effectiveness still needs to be tested by different people in different situations.

Preliminary results indicate that the male immediately brings another female back to the box, allowing trapping of multiple females in quick succession. In one situation, 3 females were trapped in one box over a period of 6 weeks.

Since the method targets mynas when they seek out breeding sites, it probably has most application in areas where populations are still low.

While it can be used (perhaps with variable success) with any nestbox, the MynaVac Trap is most effective when combined with our MatchBox.

For a method targeting the bulk control of mynas, refer to the Trapping Mynas section of the ANU website on mynas at http://sres-associated.anu.edu.au/myna/index.html.
