SkyDome

26-August-03
I've started work on adding a SkyDome to my game. The SkyDome was originally written by Curtis Olson and is used in FlightGear. It has sun, moon, clouds, stars and planets. It has sun rise and set affects. It is a fantastic work of art ! I have now moved this code into the PLIB ssgAux library (thanks Curt!), so other PLIB users can have easier access to it. The SkyDome code has been modified to work with both flat & round earth setups. The optional SimGear Ephemeris plugin will still be needed for realistic placement of celestial bodies (for earth bound games).

Here are some screenshots ... just ignore the teapot & the fact that the moon is larger than it should be ... these are just configurable features :) ... also the ocean (with real moving waves) was written by Steve Baker of PLIB ...

An example SkyDome application is ready to download.

SpaceSim

5-Dec-01
The SpaceSim application and source code are ready to download.

29-June-01
Here are some screenshots from my Space engine (still using PLIB). Textures are not a high priority during development ... but they will be added at a later stage.

Landscape

29-June-01
I've put the landscape development on hold while I investigate better methods to generate terrain on the fly. I've also been looking at using the SkyDome code from FlightGear.

13-May-01
The following screenshots were taken from AC3D. Terragen was used to generate the island. I wrote some code to convert the Terragen file (.ter) to an AC3D file (.ac). AC3D was used to add the water and skydome.

Currently I'm working on some code so I can take a walk around the island (using PLIB & OpenGL). At the moment the fps are a bit slow ... I'm looking into it !
