Round nose units operating in Australia today

Oh, what a lovely sight! Back to back round nose units CLP class Nos. 17 & 16 thunder past with a west bound double-stack container train near Port Augusta, South Australia on 6th June, 1998.

Even better! THREE CLPs (14/13/11) in their new Australia Southern Railroad livery haul a long general freight train on 6th January, 1999. [Photo by Mark Carter]

What a shame these lovely locomotives, so reminiscent of their North American E8 counterparts, no longer haul Australia's premier "Indian Pacific" trans continental passenger trains. The "P" in CLP stands for "Passenger" but all CLPs now haul freight trains along with their CLF (for Freight) cousins.
