Here are some
models from the days when I built exclusively in 1/144 scale (I now
build only in 1/200 scale). Above - two aircraft from my "own"
freelanced air force, Otaki 1/144 scale F111s posed in front of a
Faller model railroad backscene (the C141B was cut out of a magazine
and stuck on the backdrop). These aircraft, which belong to the same
squadron, share the same tail code and sequential serials 416 and
417.
Before I sold all of my 1/144th scale kits I had a vast collection
of fighters, bombers, tankers, transports and other types which I
intended to build and display on a 1/144th scale air force base. Because
it was a freelanced "fictional" air force I could choose
whatever equipment I liked to fulfill the various roles. I had a lot
of fun devising a command structure and assigning codes and serials
to aircraft which, as it happened, didn't end up getting built! The
F111s were assigned to "Tactical Strike Command" along with
other fighter and attack types.

Strategic Strike Command controlled the air
force's B52s (H and G models actually, not the "D" model seen
turning overhead without a hint of smoke, he heh!) and KC135 refuelling
tankers. The national flag of my imaginary Confederation was a white
star on a dark blue field, so I adopted the white star in a blue circle
for the national insignia. (you will notice little "white star/blue
field" national flags on all my civil airliners as well, eg my
Caravelle, or 747
& 707 )
As you can imagine, I was thrilled when Dragon DML brought out their
"Modern Airpower" series of heavy military aircraft in 1/200
scale. Now I have B52s, B2s, C141Bs, F117s as well as other transport
& AWACS types (Hasegawa) which I can employ in my new, 1/200 scale
air force !
