Microsoft Publisher troubleshooting Useful Link http:\\www.davidbartosik.com Notes 1. When the file is saved as a web page, all the pages are numbered page001, page002 etc and the images image001, image002. Can’t work with image files using their original names. 2. There is a swirly yellow background which is not visible in Format-Background. This only appears on some computers. 3. To add new pages. Insert—Page. Uncheck the “Add Hyperlink” button, go to More Options and make sure “Add Hyperlink” is unchecked there too, or the site becomes scrambled with unwanted links. 4. Insert—Page can’t insert an empty template—have to duplicate all items on the current page then delete and change them. 5. How to mess up the navigation links—after copying and pasting as above, if you delete the button hyperlink text, (Insert-hyperlink-remove link) - retype the text, and respecify a new link (Insert—hyperlink-ok), this does not work and the hyperlink will still go to the old linking page. To fix this problem, have to find a button that does work, select and copy its text box, select and delete the bad link text box (Edit-delete object) and paste in the link text box that does work (Paste and then move). 6. Site displays badly in Netscape. Go to Tools-Options -Web Options-Browsers-IE3.0 or later, Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later. Publisher 2002 does not support Netscape.
Other notes
To publish to a Web server that requires an index.htm file 1. File-Export as Web Page 2. In the Save as Web Page dialog box, specify a location in which to create a new folder 3. Create new folder 4. In the New Folder dialog box, type a name for your new folder, and then click ok 5. In the File name box, type index.htm and then click Save. 6. This creates a sub folder called index_files. The file index.htm and the files in subfolder index_files had to be uploaded separately. 7. Or Tools-Options-General_Web Options-Files– Uncheck “Organise Supporting files in a Folder”. This puts all the files in one folder with names such as index_page0001.html
