Lupus Association of Tasmania inc. (Lupustas) is conducting a TASMANIAN (Australia) survey to estimate the number of Tasmanians diagnosed with SLE (lupus) and/or other auto-immune diseases. In order to make politicians and researchers listen and take notice to enable more money to be put toward research into lupus and into the manufacture of medications to control lupus and other auto-immune diseases, we need to be as close to accurate as possible with the number of sufferers. Many people have been diagnosed for many years, and because their disease is not active or because it has fairly minor symptoms at the present time they do not talk about it or seek help or information. We would like to hear from all these people, and from any others who have had a death in their family of someone who suffered from lupus or any other auto-immune disease. We are presently working with other states in the formation of a national lupus body which we hope will produce a huge turn around in the recognition awareness and treatment of Lupus and related auto-immune diseases in Australia. | |
