The Club's Formation

On the 26th April 1976, a meeting was held at the One Tree Hill Hotel, Spring Gully. It was called to order at 7.30pm by the President of the Bendigo Lions Club, Brian Reed.
Lion Brian duly introduced Lion Gordon Keech, the Membership and Extension Chairman for what was then known as District 201P. Gordon addressed the meeting and requested that various motions be put, the first being:
- that a Lions Club of Strathfieldsaye be formed
- moved by Alan Cowling/David Edwards......carried
- that meetings be held each second and fourth Mondays
- that the venue be the One Tree Hill Hotel, Spring Gully
- that the club boundaries be those of the Shire of Strathfieldsaye
(the Shire was amalgamated into the City of Greater Bendigo during the 1990s)
The Formation Officer then advised those present that the Ethics are the obligations that they agree to accept. Lion Gordon Keech assisted by Deputy District Governer Lion Les Gillies, then inducted the men en masse, as Lions.
Lion Gordon then formally introduced the office bearers and directors of the club. Among business carried at that meeting, Lion Howard Brooke submitted a Bannerette design for inspection and comment.
This design was accepted. Councillor Dreschler, President of the Shire of Strathfieldsaye wished the club success, and assured the co-operation of the Council. The meeting closed at 9.30pm
