LBUG began in 1990 as a group of cyclists who wanted better bicycling facilities and conditions in Leichhardt, an Inner City suburb of Sydney, New South Wales. LBUG is one of a number of similar User Groups set up under the banner of Bicycle New South Wales to lobby for improved conditions for cyclists and to promote cycling to the community. LBUG is active as a Bicycling Advocacy group, attending community meetings, Leichhardt Council Traffic Committee meetings and Town Planning meetings, and talking with the RTA. We also love to cycle and run a regular rides program with the motto "see Sydney by Bike".
The LBUG Vision for Leichhardt:
A place where bicycles are welcomed and encouraged as a practical and beneficial form of everyday transport and recreation.

| More cyclists on the road.
If we all cycled more instead of driving, particularly for those short trips, not only would we be healthier but Leichhardt would be more liveable and sustainable. The price of petrol is another great reason to ride bicycles. More cyclists on the road means more notice by the authorities. More notice means better facilities. Better facilities means more cyclists... By cycling more often, to work or to school or the shops or down to the pool, you are doing something for the environment and you will help get us all better conditions. More bicycle riders on the roads also means cycling is safer. For more reasons to start cycling, see below. We have regular rides to many scenic places around Sydney on our Calendar. They are of varying length and difficulty - something for everyone. Worried about getting started? Build up your cycling skills, fitness and confidence and meet other cyclists on LBUG's Easy Riders every month. New cyclists are welcome. Capable children can come on easier rides if accompanied by an adult carer. There are learn to cycle courses available locally too. Most Sunday Rides leave the Bakehouse cafe, Moore St, Leichhardt, off Balmain Rd, at 830am. Some rides we meet at railway stations and take the train to the start. Come earlier if you want a coffee or roll before you start. LBUG also goes touring by bicycle on 2 or 3 day rides or longer, staying in country pubs.
