 JOHN GILLIES  was born Abt. 1795 in Applecross, Scotland, U.K., and died 11 Apr 1875 in Ararat, Victoria, Australia.  He married ELIZABETH CAMERON, daughter of ALEXANDER CAMERON and ANN MCKENZIE.  She was born Abt. 1804 in Rosshire, Scotland and died 18 Nov 1870 in Yalla-Y-Poora, Victoria, Australia.

                  2.    ELIZABETH (BETSY) GILLIES, b. 16 Mar 1832, Loch Carron, Scotland; d. 06 Aug 1868, Pitfield, Victoria, Australia. She married Matthew Lawless. 

                   3    FLORA GILLIES, b. 18 Mar 1834, Loch Carron, Ross, Scotland.; d. 13 Dec 1917, Ararat, Victoria, Australia. She married JOHN DOW 1861 in  Victoria, Australia. 

                  4.    CHRISTINA GILLIES, b. 03 Nov 1835, Loch Carron, Ross, Scotland, d. 1918, Wellington, New Zealand. She married PHILIP EDWARD STONEHAM 1858 in Victoria, Australia, son of JOHN STONEHAM and MARY SMITH. 

                  5.    JOHN GILLIES, b. Oct 1836, Loch Carron, Ross, Scotland, U.K.; d. May 1914, Essendon, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He married MARY JANE HURSLFIELD 1872 in Victoria, Australia. 

                  6.    ANN GILLIES, b. 12 Nov 1841, Loch Carron, Ross, Scotland, d. 23 Feb 1905, Lottah, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.   She married JAMES FARNIE WILKIE 1860 in  Victoria, Australia. 

 

Elizabeth Gillies arrived in Victoria on the Araminta in 1852 she was a stowaway aboard this ship. Her parents and siblings arrived in Victoria on the Lady Peel in 1853 and joined Elizabeth in Pitfield.
