We're a family with four children - the eldest two sons, aged 23 and 21, are severely autistic. Feeling brave, and after a substantial gap, we had two more children, one normal and the other has atypical autism or PDD-NOS.
This is my attempt to encapsulate our lives into a small website....to give a glimpse into the evolution of our family.
I've included two pieces...the second and third links on the lower left.....written five years apart. I think it shows that getting from A to B is a big struggle and that, at times, your perspective can change. I seem much brighter in the more recent one, maybe because I was no longer facing the major stress of their behaviour...and the plaster, glass and appliance repairs! Plus, I think that a seven year breather has done wonders.....we enjoy their company every week, each often twice a week....but can go home and relax, knowing that they're in excellent care.
I still see numerous specialists for them, respectively; psychologists, case managers, our gastroenterologist, child developmental psychiatrist, teachers. (Can I thank them all for being such wonderful people....and the special school staff are saints.)
I do the website for my old high school past students' association (which has involved putting the ENTIRE school archive of photos - almost 1000 - on the web!) and their newsletter. It's a huge undertaking.
My life is busy and certainly not dull. David's Landie is 'the other woman' so I thought I might feature the competition. And the expression "crappy land rover" isn't mine....it's something that slipped out of our daughter's mouth when she was five.
