Frequently Asked Questions
In fact these questions are not really asked 'frequently' but when there are questions they have usually been from people with new babies or other special requirements. I would describe Koala Cottage as a 'back to basics' retreat without the luxury of a 4 star hotel - but that is part of its charm. It is fully equipped and very comfortable but it does not aspire to luxurious 5 star expectations.

Heating and coolingKoala Cottage does not have air-conditioning. Even on extremely hot days there is usually a sea breeze. Each main room has a 3 speed ceiling fan (except bathroom, laundry and toilet). In fact the lounge room has 4 such fans.

The house has a wood fire and two heat banks in the main lounge/kitchen area which emits a constant 'back-ground' heat. There is no heating in the bed-rooms. The main living area can easily be heated to over 20 degrees if you close the blinds at night to reduce heat loss through the large windows. Hot water bottles are supplied, electric blankets on most beds and plenty of blankets.

Laundry FacilitiesThere is no washing machine. If you are staying for an extended period of time and need a washing machine, the camp ground has pay-machines and dryers available. Koala Cottage has tank water and a septic system and so we would prefer if you took your washing home.

Cleaning — You can elect to do the post-stay cleaning yourself, or you can pay the additional cost and we will take care of it for you. If you do it yourself, cleaning products and equipment are all provided. It is anticipated that you will clean to (at least) the standard you found the house on arrival, including the BBQ, fire-place (if used) and all interior.

Shower/Bath — There is a large shower (900 x 1200) and the shower head is the type that is removable on a flexible hose. There is no bath. For baby bathing there is a spacious bathroom bench for positioning a baby bath or a large laundry tub. A shower chair could easily be positioned in the shower if required. The shower is not wheelchair accessible.

Access — once up the driveway and parked in the carport, there are only 6 steps to enter the house. Unpacking and carrying belongings into the house is easy - no lugging bags up steep hills. Once inside the house there are no steps.

In terms of walking around the area, the immediate walks are rather hilly and steep.

Where can pets stay?— The deck is completely fenced and pets can stay here and be safe. There is no roof so they will get wet if it rains. Pets are welcome to stay inside so long as they are clean and well behaved, and supervised. You may like to bring old blankets or sheets so they can sit on the couches or bed. The property is not fenced so it is not advisable to let them roam about.

Dog on the beach? — Dogs are restricted from accessing the main patrolled surf beach as follows. No Dogs — Dec 24 to Apr 30 from 9.00 am to 7.00pm. Other beaches nearby have no restrictions, so you will always find a beach for dog walks.
