Welcome to the Nefertiti Middle Eastern Dance Website!

Nefertiti was a Queen of ancient Egypt, famous for her beauty, and our dance group is named in her honour. Nefertiti Middle Eastern Dance formed in 2004 in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia and is a quality bellydance teaching and performance group. There are two instructors in Hervey Bay, Jameerah and Ziya (see pic at left), both of whom are qualified teachers who have many years experience of Middle Eastern Dance (or belly dance).

Jameerah has completed a Middle Eastern Dance Instructor Training course with the Belyssa Academy of Danse Orientale in Perth. Ziya has completed Hadia's Level 1 & 2 Middle Eastern Dance Teacher Training Course. Please see individual instructor's biographies for information about their experience.

Nefertiti Middle Eastern Dance provides a range of styles, skills and experience to students and audiences. We pride ourselves on providing high quality, professionalism and authenticity in both our classes and performances, and we love what we do! We teach safe dance technique and cater for beginners to advanced. We are a friendly and fun-loving group and enjoy regular social get-togethers as well as class.

OUR TRIP TO EGYPT!

Members of our group travelled to Egypt for 3 weeks in January 2008 to experience the culture which is so central to Middle Eastern Dance. We enjoyed watching (and participating in!) many performances by fabulous dancers and musicians from folk to cabaret in style, travelled from Alexandria to Aswan and Luxor to the Sinai, cruised on the Nile watching the ancient land glide by, marvelled at the amazing Pharaonic temples and pyramids, and participated in individualised workshops provided by the famous dancers Liza Laziza and Caroline Evanoff in Cairo. It was a wonderful trip, made all the more enjoyable by the very friendly, hospitable and welcoming people of Egypt. We have returned to Australia with a vastly enhanced appreciation of this beautiful dance form and its cultural base.
