About Us

Our business is located 100 km South of Brisbane in Queensland on the east coast of Australia. We operate the business from our home where we have a library and office overlooking the picturesque Tallebudgera Valley in the hills behind Currumbin.

We have kangaroos, wallabies, and the occasional koala in our back garden and a wonderful array of bird life including kookaburras, magpies, lorikeets and black cockatoos.

Visitors are welcome and you only need to phone to arrange a time.

We commenced trading in 1992 after Jean-Louis, who is a master mariner, retired from the sea. His maritime career began in 1960 with the French merchant company Messageries Maritimes, however, most of his time at sea was spent in the South Pacific on board an oceanographic research vessel, and later on general and containerized cargo ships. In between times, he occupied the post of Harbour Master in Noumea, where we lived for nearly 25 years.

My name is Janet (home town Melbourne), and Jean-Louis' wife. I look after the administration, catalogues, emails and processing of orders. In my time off, golf is my passion. Jean-Louis' love is reading and yes, he has read most of the books in our library. Gifted with a photographic memory, Jean-Louis is a living encyclopedia on maritime history. After spending so many years in the islands, we also carry a selection on the French-speaking islands of the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.
