Slamdance has been knocking around inside my head for a little while now. The idea for him probably started brewing
sometime after I bought the Bubblegum Crisis Roleplaying Game, and began to seriously ferment after seeing
Bubblegum Crisis episode 6, Red Eyes. The HyperBoomers were always the coolest of the Boomer designs
in the original series, and, as I have a tendency to do about cool bad guys, wondered "What if there was a good
guy HyperBoomer?"
At around the same time, I'd been working on the background for my Sydney 2033 campaign setting for the
roleplaying game. It didn't progress all that well, mainly because I didn't write any more adventures after the first.
Still, there was a lot of materila that I could work from. One day, I simply sat down and began turning the scenes in my
head into stories.
Things ground to a halt after chapter 9; once again, I wasn't sure where to go next, and I was dissatisfied with my main
characters. They simply didn't feel right. Also, I thought that, after having such a huge disaster happen to it, Sydney
wouldn't be able to ignore the after-effects and keep on, just as I had done in the original chapters. So, at the moment,
I'm going over the chapters I've written so far with an eye to re-writing them. I'm also going to do a bit of definition of
the characters and update the Cast page.
My feel for the Slamdance stories is that they're part human drama, part mystery, part political/corporate
intrigue mixed in with a good helping of action adventure - you could say that it's Robert Ludlum's The Bourne
Identity meets Bubblegum Crisis.
