Secret Identity: Eddie Barron
"The wind just changed on you, mate!"
History: It was the death of Eddie Barron's parents five years ago that turned the formerly
clean-cut uni student with a bright future into the lazy, lecherous git that most of Macquarie University's female population know him
as today. Two years ago Eddie was within a hair's breadth of washing out of uni - until that incident with his storm-chaser crew, the
charged-particle emitter and the F5 cyclone. Strange things began happening after that near-death experience - breezes changing
direction to suit, increases in muscle-mass, strange dreams of crazy trips through the air - but arguably the strangest of these,
though, was a newfound interst in study.
An incident at the bank where his parents were killed unlocked Eddie's powers. Thanks to a sympathetic physics lecturer and some
friends in the Applied Superscience department, Eddie gained a wing-coat and a vision-magnifying eye-visor. As Turbine, he's been
keeping the streets and skies free of fear during class breaks. He's even gone as far as joining Australia's newest, Government-endorsed
superteam, OzWatch. And, as Eddie Barron, he's trying to turn his bad rep around - even if he still is a bit of a lazy git.
Read the Detailed Background
Personality: Eddie Barron makes very little effort to adopt an alternate persona when in
Turbine costume; both are ebullient and outgoing with a touch of cockiness and self-centredness (although Turbine likes to play up the
latter as part of a 'super-star' image for "me public"). Eddie definitely has an eye for the ladies, and although a hot body won't
distract Turbine when on super-hero business, both Turbine and Eddie will usually try to get a name (and/or number); Turbine has
marginally more success than Eddie.
Turbine is still trying to find his feet; he likes to get the job done quickly and decisively, often throwing caution to his
power-generated winds and charging in without any real plan of action. Above all, Eddie loves being Turbine, and accepts any secret
identity wrangles as natural drawbacks to the best job in the world.
With a much more interesting way of getting his thrills, Eddie's eased up on the drinking and parties, and is taking time to actually
get to know people, especially his fellow students, although he's finding it tough with his prior reputation to live down.
Powers: Turbine has control over atomic material in a gaseous state. Using his willpower,
Turbine manipulates the atmosphere, creating gales that can fling crooks from their feet. He can temporarily solidify air, creating a
wall he can use to defend himself. Given a big enough lift area (such as his suit's wings), Turbine can fly. He can clear the air
around him of any poisons or gases almost subconsciously, allowing him to breathe in otherwise hostile atmospheres. He can also bring
areas of air of different temperature suddenly together, creating a miniature thunderclap. FInally, he's noticed recently that his
physical strength has radically increased without any appreciable gain in overall muscle size; he can lift in excess of a metric tonne
from the ground to over his head if he focuses all his effort.
In addition to his powers, his armoured flight suit provides constant physical protection, with a comlink and magnifying visor built
into the headpiece. A pair of wings fold out from a backpack mouting when he needs to fly.
Occupation: Third-year student at Macquarie University and, as Turbine, crimefighting superhero and
member of the Oz Watch team.
Appearance: Eddie Barron is a young man in his early twenties. He stands six feet, one inch
in height and could pose for the cover of Men's Health. He has rakishly-styled brown hair, a ready smile and mischievous light
grey eyes. In dress, he favours a light punk style, with a drab-green shirt worn over his belt and khaki cargo pants (he doesn't like
the long silver wallet-chain that punk-rock fashion currently favours, though).
Since joining OzWatch, Turbine's traded his old, cobbled-together costume in for a number designed by OzWatch's costuming department.
His spandex jumpsuit is now a deep blue and features a grey-chrome backpack that is the main joint for a pair of jet-fighter-style
wings. The jumpsuit extends up his neck and around the sides and back of his head, where it meets his comm-set and the magnifying
visor.
