Operation: Minmay

Emulator Songs

Operation: Minmay

Operation: Minmay was the core of the U.N. Spacy's defence strategy until the Marduk arrived. It was based on the effect of Linn Minmay's singing on the culture-deprived Zentran and Meltran during the First Space War. It was also the prime reason for the complacency of the U.N. Sapce Force and its pilots; they believed any Zentran incursions into Sol space would be overwhelmed by the Minmay Attack, allowing their pilots the advantage.

The U.N. Spacy's over-reliance on this tactic was brought home to them when the Marduk attacked and their Emulators rendered the Minmay Attack impotent.

Operation: Minmay broadcasts Minmay's songs across the electromagnetic spectrum; enemy and friendly pilots cannot help but hear it. Typically, a small band of the spectrum is kept clear for priority transmissions.

Effects of the Minmay Attack

  • All enemy Zentran/Meltran automatically lose initiative in the first round of combat.
  • All enemy Zentran/Meltran are at -2 to strike, parry and dodge in the first round of combat and -1 to strike, parry, dodge and initiative for each round thereafter.
  • The Minmay Attack does NOT affect Marduk.

Emulator Songs

The Emulators are one of the most powerful weapons in the Marduk arsenal. Like the Minmay Attack, their songs are broadcast across the electromagnetic spectrum so not only all the Zentran and Meltran under the Marduk's command can hear it, but also the enemy (who may know to fear the effect of the songs on the Marduk's warriors).

The Song of Death

The Song of Death is a haunting, ghostly, sad melody that speaks only of the inevitable end of life; a lament for those who are about to give their lives for the Marduk cause. Typically, only the Lord Emperor of the Marduk can order that it be sung, as it triggers reactions in the bodies and psyches of the Zentran and Meltran who hear it, causing a suicidal frenzy.

Even the Marduk themselves are moved by this song. The order that it be sung means they are expected to make the ultimate sacrifice in the name of the Marduk vision of divine conquest.

Effects of the Song of Death

  • Negates the Minmay Attack.
  • All Marduk-controlled Zentran and Meltran who hear the song gain a +4 bonus to save vs. fear/Horror Factor and a +3 bonus to initiative and to strike. They WILL NOT parry or dodge, making simultaneous attacks instead.
  • All Marduk who hear the song gain a +1 bonus to initative, strike, parry, dodge and Horror Factor.

The Song of Love: "Loving You (More, Once Like Before)"

This song was created by the Emulator Ishtar, and was first sung by her on the bridge of the Macross during the final day of the Earth-Marduk War. It is an incredibly powerful song amongst the Marduk, primarily due to its effects on Emulators. Most Emulators who hear the Song of Love being sung by one of their own will stop singing; to them, it is the ultimate revelation of a life other than war. The effect on the rest of the Marduk may not be quite as profound (depending on their personalities) but is similar nonetheless.

Marduk-controlled Zentran and Meltran are probably more affected on the personal level. They will, very simply, stop whatever it is they are doing (including fighting) to listen. It's likely the personal effect on the Zentran and Meltran is much more devastating than the effect on the Marduk. As Marduk-controlled Zentran and Meltran are typically kept in mind-controlled stasis until needed, this is their first taste of a life other than combat; hearing an Emulator's voice (which they have been conditioned to respond to) sing of peace and love, dreams and joy, would strike them at their very core.

The Song of Love was doubly powerful on the final day of the Earth-Marduk War; not only was the Song of Death being sung, but Lord Emperor Ingues himself had gone into a power-mad frenzy, destroying the ships and fleets of any Marduk who dared speak against him. This final horror, combined with Ishtar's Song of Love, served to turn every Marduk in the skies and space around Earth against their Lord Emperor.

In order to achieve its effect, only a Marduk Emulator or Emulators can sing the Song of Love, and it only has effect if they sing it with their whole heart (it will not have effect if the Emulator singing it does not believe in its message or is singing under duress). It automatically negates both the Songs of War and Death, as the Emulators singing these songs stop doing so. It is assumed that any Emulator in Earth vicinity during Macross II has had the opportunity to learn the Song of Love; other Emulators who wish to sing it will need to spend time learning it.
