Darkness curls around our toes.
Daylight saving comes to a close.
Spending the last of our summer sun
in twilight frolics full of fun,
no thought of being a time miser,
frugal with minutes (less fun, no wiser,
because no mattress, bank or jam jar
stops the hours being what they are.)
We can only wait for the next spring day
once daylight savings has gone away.

Dust

A mouth of dust,
unslakeable thirst,
brittle paper skin,
desert diamonds -
fine salt crystals -
glitter my cheek.

My canteen
hangs down idle
lidless.
A heavy trudge
on and on
in sand.
I was once water
now I am grit.

I march in sun
through a dry
month of dust.

Quantum Mechanics

We cannot be pinned down to one truth,
because under observation, we change.
Once I preferred an uncertain existence
to being stopped under another's glare,
but now strung out across a spectrum
of ups, downs and complex probability,
I find there is comfort in classical ways.
This entanglement remains over distance
through mysterious correlation in moods.
Forces we do not understand are at work.
We may never know whether we are waves
running together or particles flying apart.
Through this brief life, the stark choice is
between knowing our position or velocity.

The odd timing of weather

The odd timing of weather.

The couch was soft. the room was dark.
she smiled, a teasing glint in her eyes.
between them zipped a visible spark.
she offered him a hug to his surprise.
he moved closer, she tilted her head.
their attraction pulling them closer still.
they kissed with passion intent on bed,
skin tingling, hearts fluttering at the thrill.
slipping side by side, bodies pressed,
they fought their clothes to come together
Then thunder, lightning, the sky's unrest.
Strange, isn't it? the odd timing of weather.

Seduction

Story of a seduction

She flicked her hair gently to better demonstrate its shine.
He hoped she might object when the nightclub had a line.
He told her how good she looked when hanging on his arm.
She found him cute, polite, someone who could do no harm.
He was captivated by the beauty of his reflection in her eyes.
She offered him a few distortions which expanded into lies.
Their judgement slowed ebbed under laughter and drink.
It did not matter what they or their friends might later think.
Seduction had them won over to the magic of the chase.
Each was considering quietly the readiness of their place.
They loved themselves completely, the other hardly at all,
which meant the later kiss was just the beginning of the fall.

Bit of a dark and cynical day today and it shows through. This was inspired by the line "He was captivated by the beauty of his reflection in her eyes" and the thought of two narcissists chasing each other for their own pleasure.
