heatwave

Australia Day was a scorcher, so with that inspiration:

Heatwave

the air hangs still
with heat and anticipation,
dry mouths long for breeze,
sweat beads our skin.
above the sheets two starfish
unable to find sleep or water,
we battle attraction and perspiration.
a sleepless buzz,
like heat surrendering
to the stormfront of a change,
desire will soon triumph
in a tangle of damp skin.

jasmine

Like the scent of jasmine
wafting from the next garden
thoughts of love come to me
rich with passion, fragrant
and tauntingly ephemeral.
I cannot tend another's garden
to bring forth new blossoms
or uproot their perfumed vines.
To live always with love
scenting the air that I breathe
I must nuture my passion
and grow it close to home.

summer dreams

under the sweet moon of summery night sky
I sleep to the rhythm of gently lapping waves
From vivid dreams of love, even lovers shy
for dreams are not how one ever behaves.
But slumbering in the arms of summer's care,
I take comfort in linen, sharp, crisp and white
for the actions of dreams only happen there
no matter how much one longs for another night.
I wake to the sun shining straight on my face,
the sea calling me out for a freshening dip,
the sheets are crumpled in the empty place
as if, just then, from bed you had to slip.
In heat, one sleeps through troubling dreams
and nothing is ever again quite as it seems.
