Winter blues
Winter hopesA sheen of brilliant beauty
glistening beads upon her back
Sunlit jewellery of a summer's day.
A sweep of oil onto warm skin
languid gestures the language
of a gentle intimacy of intent
Our bodies brush in a last swim,
Sunset freshens our encounter,
water and oil mix surprisingly well.
A full winter moon
The ease of the tease when the will is wanting;
the pull of tides within oceans of emotion.
The moan all alone when the skill is slipping.
Perception is deception when the moon swells.
The hurry to help, to yearn (oh, yes - to yield)
in pale blue light cast over steel blue skin.
Flickering light cast a glow on her chest
and made leaping shadows of her curves.
In expectation's rush, I tracked the path
of her erratic light, off the walls, the ceiling,
dashing across the caramel sheen of skin
towards a secret buried in blue-black.
She brought illumination, beauty and joy
into my darkness. I reached up to her,
held her hand, snuffed out the candle
and, as darkness rushed in from the walls,
pulled her into the new lightness of my bed.
the passerby in a lime green suit
patterned with red plaid
brought out my smile
There is no better antidote
to unrelenting grey skies
than reckless disregard
for the conventional.
The suit was loud, yes,
his stride bounced, check,
but the clincher was
his socks
the colour of lost sunshine.
Sonnet
"How did you go bankrupt?"
"Gradually, and then suddenly."
Ernest Hemingway - The Sun also rises
A glance cast away with an averted eye
An open gesture a prelude to an embrace
like warm sunlight falling from a twilight sky
a flick of hair, a quickening of the pace
of conversation when it falls to just two,
talk of honesty and surprising confession,
acccompanied by recurring thoughts of you,
thoughts that betray the hints of obsession,
pushed away by a sceptical practical mind
able to will up many counters and excuses.
I look hard to avoid what I know I'll find
(scepticism has some unusual uses).
Falling in love is an ever so gradual event
then suddenly you wonder where doubt went.
