"WARNING! Rebreather Diving is a dangerous sport. It weeds out the weak by KILLING them. Can I make it any clearer than that? SO: Remember, Rebreather-Diving AT ALL is dangerous enough. Making up EXPERIMENTAL rigs from parts gathered from here and there is about as iffy as it gets. DON'T try this if you don't know what you are doing. If you get killed following my methods, then shame on you! Don't let your family come crying to me as to how I facilitated YOUR death. The bottom line is that if you could not do this sort of conversion WITHOUT READING ANY INSTRUCTIONS AT ALL you are not ready to do it by following my methods. Hey! Be careful out there, huh?"
...now enjoy!
OVERVIEW SCRUBBER COUNTERLUNGS SENSOR DISPLAY "KISS" VALVE
Being an anaesthetist by trade, I play with "rebreathers" all day. So it was only natural that I should want to dive with one. BUT, they cost an arm and a leg (AU$ 7000.00 - 20000.00 + ), so the challenge of making one myself was too much to bear! My first step was to look at some (thanks to Chris Law and Jeff Giddins' modified Dolphins), check out everything on the net, chat to everyone on Dive-oz and the Draeger list, read Jeff Bozanic's new book (Mastering Rebreathers) then get out the old drawing board. Many hours later, I'm down in the shed playing with weird bits of rubber, PVC and acrylic tubing.

Thanks to the lovely Dr Andrew Bowie for modelling the HarryBreather Mk1
I like the look and simplicity of the Gordon Smith KISS CCR (http://www.jetsam.ca/). Manual control seems the only way to go for the homebuilder. Mark Munro's acrylic scrubber (http://www.ppo2.com/Mod3.htm) looks sweet and was to be the basis for mine, although I went for a coaxial design rather than an axial. Mark also supplied the Teldyne R22D sensors and the 3 sensor panel kit. Subsequently I have been getting sensors from Daryl Water's Queensland company Dive Tek (www.divetekoz.com)....definitely worth checking out.
I picked up a very cheap Draeger Ray which provided me with my dosing head for the diluent feed, DSV and tubing plus a cylinder, 1st and 2nd stage and countless other useful bits. I might also convert the Ray to CCR as my next project as per this site http://www.vk4tub.org/tubby/ray.html.
