have you considered volunteer work as a way to achieving new skills or even honing up existing skills? i have recently done volunteer work with the Information technology section of the queensland environmental protection agency in Townsville. (to give me an opportunity to hone up my it skills and learn new procedures). Prior to that I was doing volunteer work with Nature Search who come under the umbrella of the epa and while there I designed a web site for them and commenced updating PowerPoint Presentations as well as writing new ones for them. While in the it area of the epa designed an internal web site for the Northern Region of the department. In addition to my volunteer work with the epa I was also a volunteer teacher with the University Of The Third Age teaching basic computer skills (Office/Works, Internet & email) as well as a volunteer tutor with Volunteering North Queensland teaching basic Microsoft Word and Excel. I also undertook volunteer work with Greening Australia as an Administration Assistant so as to gain a bit more experience in this field.
