Hedley | Victoria - Australia
Sheltered between the forested South Gippsland Hills and the rugged coastline of Wilsons
Promontory, 'Ferntree Vale' and 'Laurel Bank' were the first properties to be selected in the
Hedley district in 1876. Now a farm of some 500 acres, originally the properties were
part of a large holding of 1300 acres owned by the Hodgson Family, ancestors
of the Greenaway Family. Originally the land was covered with tall bluegum
forests and lush tree ferns, but soon a home was established: land was
cleared and cattle were purchased. Land around the farm was
quickly selected and a thriving farm community soon followed.

Hedley these days is a rich dairy and
beef cattle district. But, there are still
strong echoes of it's past...
