Program Info
This program provides the ability to perform any shutdown operation via the command line. Slam can easily shutdown, restart, log off, power-down, suspend or hibernate your computer. Slam can also be used to remotely shutdown other computers, and for shutting down windows automatically at a set time using Windows built in Scheduler. Force can be used to closed crashed programs, plus delayed and warned shutdowns are also supported.

Run "Setup.exe" and follow the instructions. To remove Slam, use the "Add/Remove Programs" option in the Control Panel. (Or simply delete the Slam folder. No Sinner Computing programs store data in the Windows directory.)
In its simplest use, Slam can just be run and Windows will shutdown. However, you can also use the following options.
| Warn | Give ten seconds warning prior to closing Windows and offer the option to cancel |
| Wait | Wait for confirmation prior to closing Windows and offer the option to cancel |
| Shut | Shutdown and Power Off |
| Loop | Shutdown and Restart |
| Logo | Log Off the current user |
| POff | Shutdown and Power Off |
| Kill | Force termination of programs (not recommended unless needed!) |
| Remo | Remotely shutdown another computer (Will not work on a default WinXP installation) |
| Hibr | Hibernate |
| Susp | Suspend |
Examples:
| Slam.exe /loop /kill | Force termination and restart |
| Slam.exe /logo /wait | Warn of shutdown and if okayed log off |
| Slam.exe /kill /shut /warn | Warn of shutdown and if okayed or timed out, force termination and turn off |
| Slam.exe /loop | Shutdown and Restart |
| Slam.exe /Remo=HotPink /loop | Shuts down the computer named "HotPink" and restarts it |
| Slam.exe /Hibr /Warn /Warn | Hibernates the computer after 20 seconds warning |
It doesn't matter what order the options are given in, but some options conflict. For example a restart and a turn off are obviously not possible. The best way to use Slam is to create a shortcut. To do this you
1. Right click on Slam.exe and select "Create Shortcut"
2. Right click on shortcut and choose "Properties"
3. In the "Target" field add the options that you wish to enable, such as " /hibr". Sometimes you need to quote the filename like this;
"c:\Program Files\Slam\Slam.exe" /hibr
This is the (planned) end of the line for this program. Aside for bug fixes I have no plans to add features to this program as it was only intended to be a small command line utility. However, I will listen to any requests. (Incidentally, 1.1 was the planned end.) For those wanting more I have written a general power utility called Volt which does all that Slam does, as well as being a tray application with countdown shutdown and battery monitoring features. Another program of mine, Ute, (among it's many features,) is a Command Line Utility collection. Ute and Volt are available from our website.
Slam has been tested on Windows 9x, Windows NT, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
We go to great lengths to reduce system impact, but we feel that it is still important to explain here what our programs do to your system. If you feel we are missing something, or you need further clarification, please contact us.
| Registry | Slam does not use the registry. The installer that comes with Slam uses the registry only for the required un-installation data, and not at all if you use the "Extract Only" mode. |
| System Settings | Slam requires admin access rights to shutdown the computer. |
| Files | All of its program files are stored in the installation directory. Slam has no data files. |
| Network | Slam does not use the internet |
| CPU | Slam does not have any CPU demanding functions. |
| Memory | Slam has no major memory requirement. |
| 1.00 | Initial Version |
| 1.10 | NT/2000/XP shutdown, restart, more shutdown options and warn windows |
| 1.11 | Delayed shutdown. |
| 1.12 | Remote shutdown, suspend and hibernate |
| 1.2 | Maintenance Release |
Permission is given to evaluate Slam for a period of 30 days. After this time you are required to either register or remove Slam. Permission is given for all forms of distribution, including CD compilations and Websites, providing the ZIP file is unaltered and it is made clear that Slam is a Guiltware program and that registration is required for continued usage. Slam can be registered using PayPal, Reg.Net or Mail. For details on the terms of our licences and of our Buy-Three-Get-All policy please refer to the FAQ page.
Slam is a copyrighted work and thus permission is not given for you to decompile, disassemble, modify, translate, enhance or create derivative works from this program. If you feel that you need to do any of those actions, and that those rules do not apply to you, contact us first.
Guiltware?
Please note that Slam contains no "Shareware" features at all. In other words, after the 30 days are up, nothing will happen to try to remind or persuade you to register Slam. This is because Slam is, and always will be, too small to include such features. Thus the registration links below are for another Sinner Computing program, Volt. Registration of Volt provides Slam as a free bonus.

Advice/insults (on the subject of the program, not the programmer) are always welcome. To help users keep up to date we send out newsletters whenever there is a major new version of Slam. To join this list simply send an EMail with "SlamADD" in the subject. To be removed from this list, write an EMail with "SlamREMOVE" in the subject. (Sinner Computing does not sell your EMail address or any other personal information to anyone.) In addition, we have a RSS feed that is updated whenever there is a new version of any program.
