Program Info...
QWave is designed to simplify the previewing of audio files. Most players will take up to 10 seconds to load just the program. QWave gets to the point faster by having only an icon in the System Tray and does nothing during start-up other than play the file. In addition, QWave itself is extremely small (6 KB - the ReadMe is larger than the program itself) and uses the in-built Media Control Interface to play files. Thus, QWave supports almost all Multi-Media files, including Wave, MIDI, MP3, MPEG and AVI. (Audio only.) QWave configures itself to appear in the context menu of all files for easy previewing, but QWave can also be used as the default player.
Tested on...
Win98SE
WinME
WinNT
Win2000
WinXP
Installation...
Run "Setup.exe" and follow the instructions. After installation, run QWave to set up QWave associations. (See below for instructions.) To remove QWave, use the "Add/Remove Programs" option in the Control Panel. (Or simply delete the QWave folder. No Sinner Computing programs store data in the Windows directory.)
Use...
For QWave to work correctly, that is appearing in the context (or the "right click") menu for every file as "QPlay", you must associate QWave in the registry. To do this, simply run QWave and the confirm the setting. (To reverse this simply run QWave again.) However, if you don't wish to change your associations, you can also make it work by "dropping" any Wave file on the "QWave.exe" icon, or any shortcut pointing to it.
Once set, simply select "QPlay" and the sound will play. When the sound is over, QWave will quit. To stop QWave playing before the sound has ended, if for example it is a long sound, move the pointer to the QWave icon in the system tray and the sound will stop instantly, and QWave will exit.
Programmers Notes...
QWave was my first Windows Assembly program and it is always odd to be working on it. This version is especially odd as I always said that I would never do a MP3 player version. However, this version cheats by using in built support so it is only slightly (500 bytes) bigger than the old version. Since this version adds support for virtually all media files it seemed smarter to make QWave a option only and remove the configuration program. Thus, as an overall package, QWave is significantly smaller and better. I would appreciate any comment on the extreme change.
However, I do think (with tear in my eye) that this could (and should) be the end of the line for QWave. I am extremely interested in doing a multi viewer program, and while I could continue QWave down that road, it would be way off base from the original intention. (This will not change the support status of the program however.) Even so, I am open, as always, to suggestions and requests.
This program is designed for a minimum footprint. It uses around 50Kb of hard drive space, doesn't slow the computer down in any way and the registry is used only to allow association with QWave.

License...
This program is free to use for evaluation purposes only. Once you have evaluated QWave then you are required to pay the Registration Fee if you wish to continue using it. How long can you evaluate QWave for? As long as you see fit! However, the program will start reminding (nagging) you of QWave Shareware status after about 30 days. Registered users receive priority support, but currently all EMails are responded to as fast as possible.
Permission is given for all forms of distribution, including CD compilations and Websites. Just keep it in the ZIP file to keep the files together. To help Sinner Computing keep track of its distribution we would like an EMail from you to get a general idea of its usage, and also to encourage further improvement. Advice/insults (on the subject of the program, not the programmer) are also welcome. People who EMail can also be added to a mailing list and be sent the newest version. Simply send an EMail with "QWaveADD" in the subject. (The address is at the top of this file and also in the program itself in the "About" window.) To be removed from this list, write an EMail with "QWaveREMOVE" in the subject. Sinner Computing does not give out your EMail address to anyone.
Registration...
If you find this program useful you are required to pay the registration fee, which is for this version is $10 AUD (or $6.95 USD). Use the PayPal or RegNet (direct link is below as well as on the QWave page on the website), or send it to the postal address mentioned in the "About" window of QWave. (In cash only please - to convert a foreign cheque it costs $7!) Because QWave does not have any registration function Registration of QWave entitles you to a license of JukeBx as well. (This offer is extended to past registered users also; simply ask.) Alternatively, you could simply register Ute as it includes QWave.
