During the last 30
years I have accumulated a lot of data, facts and theories on my family
history. Only a small portion is included on these pages to provide a
general overview and a point of reference to others that may be able to link
their family with mine.

Some
Ancient Angus Histories
The annals of
the family of Angus go back far into the mists of time, to the legendary
history of Scotland and the victory of Alpine over the Picts.
The province
of Orestia was given as a reward for services rendered in the wars against
the Picts to Angus who became the first Thane of Angus. The title was
subsequently altered to that of Earl and it is from this noble house that
the Angus families trace their descent.
By the 16th century
they were professing a sturdy Protestantism which brought the attainder and
exile of Archibald, 9th Earl of Angus in 1584 - whose estates were
confiscated and who left Scotland with his family and followers and went to
Northumberland-upon-Tyne, where they were joined by many like minded
persons.
Says one chronicler -
"who were entirely supported by the Earl
until his means failed, when he said cheerfully:
'Now it's gone, and fare it well. I never looked that
it should have done so much good'."

The following
information relates to the Balquidder area of Scotland - famous as the home of the Clan MacGregor (the
most famous member being Rob Roy). Balquidder is near the Trossachs, in
the vicinity of Callander (of Dr. Findlay's Casebook fame), Strathyre and
Lochearnhead.
"Angus is
believed to have come from the east of Scotland into the Glen (Balquidder
Glen), and he was apparently so overcome by the beauty of what he saw as he
rounded the hill that he fell to his knees and invoked a blessing on
the
place. There is in fact a little house sitting on the bank overlooking the
Glen - it is called 'Beannachd Aonghais' (Blessing of Angus). It is
generally believed that it was from Dunblane that Angus came in about the
7th or 8th Century. Angus had no intention of being a recluse, he had come
to convert the people to Christianity."
