Leucopogon ericoides

A prickly shrub to about 1m tall. Leaves end in a pungent point, and are often very dark in colour. The flowers are borne near the ends of the branches, and are often pink in bud. The petals are white, strongly recurved and very frilly around the edges. The flowers emit a very strong but pleasant scent. Regardless of the direction of the stem, the flowers are equally spaced around it, and are not pendulous, as in the closely related and equally strong smelling species Leucopogon setiger.

Habitat: sandy soils, open forest and heath

Flowering: Spring

Distribution: Widespread in Sydney from coast to mountains. In NSW north coast, south coast, southern tablelands. Also in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
