Getting ready for the City To Surf race

I have settled into the routine of working from home. It's even more of a bonus now that my office has moved to Mona Vale (2 hours away by public transport). Once a month I travel to Melbourne for the day and this keeps me from going stir crazy.

We bought a new digital SLR camera this year (Olympus E-300). When I completed the warranty online I filled in an entry to win a trip for 2 to Central Australia. And unbelievably I won! So Judy and I headed off to "Sails in the Desert" at Uluru for our 17th anniversary. And took lots of photos of course.

November saw me reach the 40 milestone. No depression. I always figure the only alternative is not to reach 40 and that doesn't sound too appealing. I also look at my family and think that I have nothing to be depressed about. To celebrate the milestone Judy and I sauntered off to Cambodia. I was looking forward to the trip and it exceeded my expectations. It's one more item off my travel wish list, just a few page to go.

The last time I updated this page I was planning on running the City to Surf race. Well, that was done and I ran a time that I was very happy with. I was so inspired that one month later I ran a 9km race over the Harbour Bridge around the Botanic Gardens and finished at the Opera House. It was great to be able to run over a traffic free bridge. Though I didn't soak up the view as much as I could. I am currently in a running hiatus and will probably do the same races again next year. There is also another 11km run a month before the City to Surf which I'll add...and maybe a 2km ocean swim next December.

A gym has opened 5 minutes away (10 minutes on my bike) and with no commuting time I have been pretty good at going regularly. I haven't lost much weight, but I feel fitter and I think I my waist is shrinking. I keep telling myself its extra muscle and its heavier than fat.

Andrew and Caroline are playing T-ball this Summer and I have been volunteered to coach their team (they play together). I have always been wary of the 'coaches son/daughters' dynamic but I am being very professional about it. I am very conscious of being even handed with them, neither favouring them nor favouring others to show I am not biased. I had to attend a coaching clinic. That probably means in future years I'll be at the head of the line to coach.

My beer importing syndicate has turned into a business and I now have to buy the beer from them. As I have a backlog of beer it may be a while. It's probably better than I am not getting regular cases of very strong Belgian beer. However, to counter this fate intervened. There happens to be a brew-you-own brewery in Mona Vale. So me and a few blokes from work are now brewing. Just in time for Summer and Christmas.
