Group Classes
Interested
in learning African drumming? Drum
Effect provides ongoing classes in which students learn traditional djembe/dun
dun rhythms from
West Africa
in a group setting. The
class teacher, Kate Gascoyne, is a qualified teacher who
has studied drumming and dance in Ghana, West Africa. Kate
performs regularly in
Canberra
group ‘Drumassault’.
There are two classes that run weekly in 10-week terms. In both classes students
learn the calls, djembe and/or dundun parts, breaks and solo phrases of
traditional West African rhythms. Both classes are designed for continuing
students however the 6.15pm class accommodates first-time drummers or
drummers who are new to West African
drumming at the beginning of each term.
Classes are held weekly and
follow the ACT school term. Drums
can be hired if necessary. Students
can learn both djembe and dundun drums.
