1 User Password
It is best to just use your first name and you don’t have to use a password.
This allows you to have your own display settings when you log on.
The settings are saved when you turn off the computer
NOTE please do not press Escape when asked for a username as any changes you make will be saved as default settings.
Logon for Desk3
After you logon to Desk3, start Outlook Express and you will asked to specify a mailbox.
Select c:\windows\profiles\desk3\application data\microsoft\outlookexpress which means you will be able to read the mail which comes into dbalink under your profile.
On any other computer just click OK and don’t make the above change.
2 Display Settings.
You can change the font size and colour of all Windows programs.
Choose Start menu, Settings, Control Panel, Display, Appearance.
Select a scheme and click Apply.
NOTE: If you change the scheme colours, save the scheme in your name.
You may also change the Screen Saver and Background colours.
3 User Profile settings.
Choose Start menu, Settings, Control Panel, User Profiles.
Make sure your have selected,
Customize settings.
Desktop
Start Menu.
Leave all the others unchecked.
Later on you can have your own folders for
My Documents and Favourites.
You can locate your folder at c:\Windows\Profiles\username\My Documents
4 Automatically start programs when you turn the computer on.
If you always use Zoomtext or Jaws or Magnifier, it is best to place these programs in the Startup folder in the Start menu.
I will explain how to put Zoomtext into your personal Startup folder.
You will need to copy the Zoomtext shortcut from the Zoomtext folder in the general Start Menu and paste it to the Startup Folder in your Personal Profile Start Menu
Open Windows Explorer (Start key with E)
Select C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Zoomtext and select Zoomtext shortcut.
Press Control with C to copy OR right mouse, copy
Select C:\Windows\Profiles\username\StartMenu\Programs\Startup
Press Control with V to paster shortcut.
5 Copy a Shortcut to the Desktop
I will use the example of copying Zoomtext icon to the Desktop.
Open Windows Explorer (Start key with E)
Select C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Zoomtext and select Zoomtext shortcut.
Press Control with C to copy
Go to the Desktop folder (Press Tab, Home)
Press Control with V to paste.

4. Go to the Desktop by pressing Key button with M (Minimize).
5. Place mouse pointer on the blank screen and click with your right mouse and menu will appear.

icon will appear.

Screen saver can be changed or set to activate after a speicfied number of minutes
Choose Start Menu
Settings, Control Panel, Display
Switch to Screen Saver page.
Select Screen Saver and type number of minutes before it is activated.
7 Monitor sleep mode
Choose Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, Display
Switch to Screen Saver page.
Click Settings button
Set all settings to never if you don’t want computer screen or hard disk to turn off if not used for a specified time. Otherwise set a time.
Important – make sure you have saved your work before you are not using your computer for a short time i.e. lunch break, chat, phone, etc. in case of computer or power failure.
8 Computer sleep mode.
Choose Start Menu, Settings, Control Panel, Display
Switch to Screen Saver page.
Click Settings button
Set all settings to never if you don’t want computer screen or hard disk to turn off if not used for a specified time. Otherwise set a time.
