ALVA Braille Display

 

CABLES

Alva can be connected to the computer via a Serial 9-pin male connector or a Parallel Female cable (25 pins) Serial Connection you need a 9 pin male "Null Modem Cable" and you can connect it to either Com 1 or Com 2 on the computer Parallel Connection Alva will supply a 25 pin Female cable and you can connect it to either LPT1 or LPT2 printer connection at the back of the computer.

 

There are two parallel connections on the back of the Alva. It is important to use the one towards the middle, next to the serial. The parallel connection at the back of the Alva is to connect your printer to the alva if you only have one LPT connection on your computer.

 

Setup Alva for Serial Connection Alva is setup for parallel connection. You must change a setting inside Alva if you decide to use a Serial connection Press the first three front panel keys at the same time to select Local Mode Press TCS1 to select parallel Press TCS2 to select Serial com1 Press TCS3 to select Serial Com 2 NOTE: TCS is short for Touch Cursor Status and refers to the touch buttons above the first 3 status braille cells.

 

Alva will remember the settings even after it is switched off. You only need to to the setup once. Install Alva Braille Driver for Jaws You can have both TBIII and Alva installed with Jaws and you can select which braille display you want to use. You don't need to remove Jaws Liscence to add a braille display Install the Alva Braille Display drivers for JAWS:

 

1. Insert J.

2. Options Menu (Alt O).

3. Down arrow to Braille and press Enter.

4. Tab 4 times to "Add Braille Display".

5. Press down arrow to "Alva ABT 3 Series".

6. Press Spacebar to select.

7. Press enter.

8. Press enter to Finish

Select a default braille display from you installed list

1. Insert with J

2. Alt with O to open options Menu

3. Down arrow to Braille and press Enter.

4. Press Down arrow to select Default braille display from the list of installed displays
