Uses the power of EXCEL without having to know the complex programming functions of EXCEL.

This package is used in over 40 countries and if you have EXCEL it is a very cost efficient solution to data that can be read into EXCEL format.

Has many different statistical functions. Click here

Available for trial download from

Simstat Powerful yet very simple to use.  One of my favourites http://www.simstat.com/

Education pricing see http://www.simstat.com/educ.htm

Note the student price of $40 if limited to 20 variables.

Web Based analysis packages

Statlets2 Good as online package or if you can cope with limits of academic version but expensive to buy commercial PC version.

Power Analysis

PASS A statistical test's power is the probability that the test procedure will result in statistical significance. Power is related to the sample size, the size of the type 1 (alpha) error, the actual size of the effect, and the size of experimental error. All of these must be considered in order to calculate statistical power.
As statistical significance is usually the desired outcome, planning and running a study to achieve a high power is of prime importance to the researcher. Because of the complexity of the calculations, the determination of the power  is often ignored or only a casual attempt is made at its calculation by adopting some, so-called, `rule-of-thumb.'

PASS lets you solve for power, sample size, effect size, and alpha level. It  automatically displays charts and graphs along with numeric tables and text summaries in a portable format that is cut and paste compatible with all word processors so you can easily include the results in your proposal.
This program is a powerful and easy to use package. If calculates sample size required for specified power level for 37 different statistical tests

Trial download available from

Power and Precision  This is an equally good package as PASS and is, if anything, slightly easier to use (also marketed by SPSS as Sample Power http://www.power-analysis.com/
On line software that conducts power analysis for free for 7 common statistics http://www.stat.uiowa.edu/~rlenth/Power/
Ex-Sample Expert system which guides you through a systematic process for determining sample size for more than 60 different analyses. Ex-SAMPLE suggests strategies to reduce the required size and a critique of the sampling plan. Power analysis.

Power and Effect STATISTICA Power Analysis is a comprehensive, general purpose tool for helping you plan your research studies so that the sample size is appropriate for the objectives of the study. It also provides a wide variety of tools for analyzing all aspects of statistical power and sample size calculation. An addon to the general statistics program STATISTICA

Available for MacIntosh, MSDOS and Windows.

It covers a good range of statistical tests.

The new version includes minor changes to WHATIS, COMPARE2, and PAIRSetc. A new option has been added to DESCRIBE: Appraisal of numerical data: describes a frequency distribution (mean, quantiles, etc, outliers, robust estimates of mean, normality, symmetry, peakedness), compares the median or mean with a selected hypothetical value, and appraises a specified sequence of numbers (trend, randomness, parametric and nonparametric regression equations, change-point test, centrifugality, computation of smoothed values for plotting).  http://www.myatt.demon.co.uk
