Abbaye de Fontenay

At the front of the transept on the left is a statue of Our Lady of Fontenay which is considered one of the more majestic of French sculptures. It dates from the the 13th Century, this Notre Dame de Fontenay reminds one of the particular devotion of St Bernard for the Virgin.  Behind her and in the back of the transept is the porte des morts (Death's door), which leads out to the cemetery of the monks.
