Chartres

Building of the cathedral of Notre Dame de Chartres commenced in 1145.  Extensive reconstruction was necessary after a fire in 1194.  Chartres Cathedral marks a high point of French Gothic art. T he vast nave, the porches with fine sculptures from the middle of the 12th century and the magnificent 12th and 13th century stained-glass windows make it a masterpiece.

Azay Le Rideau

A tranquil scene while we were stranded because of fuel shortage.

Hard to think of a better place to be stranded! Especially with two dear friends for company.
