Elizabeth Parish


Elizabeth may be the daughter of Jonas Parish and his wife, Ann - baptized 16th July 1773.

At 17 years of age, she gave birth to a son, Smith Parish.


Smith Parish  &  Ann


Smith Parish was baptized at Saint Michael's, Caldecote on the 5th August, 1792, the bastard son of Elizabeth Parish. 

Ann -  census entries indicate that Ann was born Ireland about 1794.

A marriage has not been located for Smith and Ann. 

Known children, baptisms at St Michael's, Caldecote.

  1. Jane - born about 1817.  Her baptism has not been found.  Jane had two children out of wedlock, Anne 1837 and Harriet 1840.  Jane married Elijah Chapman in 1842.
  2. John - baptized 21st February 1819, married Mary Wayman/Wayment 2nd November 1840.   When their only child, Mary Ann, was eight years old they emigrated to South Australia, arriving 1853.  After Mary's death, John married in 1868 to Ann Cox, the widow of Elisha Thomas.  John died 17th August 1902 near Willenabrina, Victoria, Australia.
  3. James - Christine's great great grandfather. Emigrated to Australia with his wife and surviving twin daughter. Went on to have ten more children.
  4. Robert - baptized 18th April 1824, may have married an Eliza Harlow in the June quarter of 1849 in the North Witchford district and showing in census years at least to 1891 aged 65.
  5. Caroline - baptized 2nd September 1827, two children out of wedlock, Sophia and Sabina, then married Anderson Grant 17th May 1852.  They emigrated to South Australia during 1853.  Caroline died 3rd April 1878.
  6. Sarah - baptized 28th November 1830, married John Wayman, aka Wayment, 23rd December 1848.   They had about eleven children. Sarah was aged 69 in the 1901 census. 
  7. Mark - baptized 3rd November 1833, married Susannah Westnutt 20th September 1851.  Emigrated to South Australia, arriving in June 1854.  His sister Jane's daughter, Ann Chapman, arrived on the same ship.  Mark had land in South Australia before becoming a fruitier in Port Fairy, Victoria.  He died 2nd June 1898.

William - Showing as born Caldecote about 1835  in the 1871 census, a soldier stationed in Hampshire.  So where was he in 1841?  if not a son, then he is a cousin.

Smith died aged 66, in 1855.   

Ann died in 1869.

William George Parish  &  Emily Britten


William George Parish was born 5th of August, 1868, at Yankalilla, South Australia - the last child of 12 known children to James Parish and Jane Smith.

Emily Britten was born 9th of June 1872, at Port MacDonnell, South Australia - the fourth child of thirteen born in Joseph Britten's first marriage with Mary Ellen Hunter.

William and Emily married on the 18th of February, 1891.  I am not certain where this marriage took place, in Willenabrina or Horsham, but both are in Victoria.  William became a farmer at 'Green Park' between Horsham and Willenabrina.

I know of seven children....

1891-1954  Myrtle Jane - married William Henry (Bill) Hole.

1894-1895  Ethel May.

1895-1964  William James - married Kate Rowles Mason.

1897-1972  Alice Maud - married Bertie Schaper.

1899-1973  Herbert George - married Maisie Hutchins Hunt.

1905-1963 Leslie Joseph Cyril married Mavis (Maisie) Olive Crute.

1912-1954 Thomas Arthur married Eva Millicent Ball.

William died 24th June 1930

Emily died 28th April 1946
