Hobbs

I have two HOBBS families in my ancestors - putting the earliest known ones here.

Thomas Hobbs and Martha Stagg

Thomas Hobbs and Martha Stagg married on 10th October at Ramsbury, Wiltshire.  The year varies in the two IGI records that I have seen - 1786 or 1788, both LDS member submitted.  Until I view the actual parish marriage record, I tend to favour the latter year as the true date, because this was also the day that this couple had a child baptized.

The following children found baptized at Ramsbury (IGI)

  1. Joseph - 10th October 1788, died 21st August 1789
  2. Benjamin - 3rd October 1790
  3. William - 11th December 1791; ? married Ann.
  4. Hannah - 1st September 1793; married Richard Hunter (my 4th g grandparents)
  5. Elizabeth - 29th March 1795
  6. Mary Ann - 17th January 1798; married Peter Withers.
  7. Joseph - 27th March 1801; ? married Mary
  8. George - 29th January 1804; ? married Anne
  9. Sarah - 23rd February 1806
  10. Charlotte - 13th March 1808

The grandson of Thomas Hobbs and Martha Stagg, George Hunter, married Emily Hobbs, the daughter of Charles Hobbs and Elizabeth Mudge.

Charles Hobbs and Elizabeth Mudge

Charles Hobbs - according to census entries was born about 1799 at Froxfield, Wiltshire.  His father may be Edward Hobbs.

Elizabeth Mudge - born about 1802 at Chilton Foliat, Wiltshire.  According to IGI LDS submitted data, her parents are William Mudge and Mary Gould.

Charles and Elizabeth married at Chilton Foliat on 15th May 1825. (IGI)
