The Coote Family originated from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk in England.  Or at least, that is the earliest trace of the family. 

Around the mid-1840s the family disappeared from Suffolk.  Two brothers, John and Joseph Coote arrived in Australia around 1850 and made their way to Newcastle.  John eventually settled in Dungog, while Joseph settled in Sydney.

Thanks to a descendant of Eliza Coote, it's been established that the sisters Mary Ann, Sarah and Eliza went to the London.  Sarah and Eliza then made the journey to Australia.
